Bookshops take note.

Bookshops could do well to take a leaf out of this book.

Someone’s getting it right. Specialist games publisher Fantasy Flight Games have developed a new digital marketing tool. A media centre. It’s a small black box that sits on the shelves next to your product and can be either passive in its stream of information or an interactive experience for customers. Nothing entirely new. In store order points using the web are popping up all over the place. This is something I've thought could benefit high street book retailers.

Many bookshops offer coffee and cake concessions. Imagine your office lunch break at a table with an integrated media centre locked to that retailer’s specially created web site. You could browse the shop’s online catalogue. See a book you like? Watch the trailer, learn about the author, read reviews, read sample pages and when you’re done, check out. The choice of buying a discounted e-book for your mobile device or a more expensive physical copy is yours. Either way, the retailer gets revenue, competes against the online threat and offers a social experience all under one roof.

But before you leave your table, wipe the greasy fingerprints from off the screen, please.

So well done to Fantasy Flight Games who’ve thought up a similar solution.

Excellent idea, Wayne! You should find a developer and market the idea.
